A PALYNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SEDIMENTS FROM STAUNCH MEADOW, BRANDON, SUFFOLK.

Author(s): P E J Wiltshire

Adjacent cores of peat from the edge of the Little Ouse river at Staunch Meadow, Brandon were subjected to both pollen and multivariate analysis. The results were compared with those of the macrofossil analysis, carried out by P Murphy. A detailed history was obtained of the local vegetation, as well as the agricultural economy of the environs of the meadow, from the Iron Age through to abandonment of the site in Middle Saxon times. Evidence for Saxon textile processing was presented.
