8 Market Street, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire: Tree-Ring Analysis of Oak Timbers

Author(s): Dr Martin Bridge, Cathy Tyers

Samples from the ground floor and roof in the primary, front range were sampled, along with roof timbers from the secondary rear range. Five ring series from the primary range cross-matched each other and were combined into a 106-year long site chronology which was subsequently dated to the period AD 1315–1420. A likely felling date range of AD 1424–56 was derived from this phase. Some crossmatching was found between timbers in the rear range, but none of the series were dated.
