The Northern Thames Basin Character Area falls within Hertfordshire and Essex, spanning the South East of England, east from Watford to the coast at Clacton-on-Sea and Southend-on-Sea. It forms an area of transitional countryside as rural areas merge into the northern London suburbs. 10% of the area is woodland and 28% is urban.
