Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire Wolds, Chalk and Limestone Mixed

Author(s): Jeremy Lake

The Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire Wolds are part of the belt of Wolds landscapes underlain by Jurassic rocks which stretch from the Cotswolds to Lincolnshire. The Character Area lies broadly between Nottingham, Leicester and Rutland Water and is centred on the market town of Melton Mowbray. It is 4.9% urban. This is a fairly open (only 4.1% wooded), mixed farmland landscape with long views from the summits of the undulating hills.
