HOLNE MOOR, DARTMOOR, DEVONSHIRE

Author(s): Simon Probert, Phil Newman

Holne Moor is a well-preserved multi-period landscape illustrative of the development of the upland fringes of south eastern Dartmoor from early prehistory to the present day. The survey of the upstanding remains portrays the varying perspectives in which these areas were viewed, as providers of pasture, a resource exploitation that continues to this day: as a supply of arable land at tines of population or other social pressure: the source of attractive mineral deposits: a valued water catchment: a potential invasion ground and a military training area.
