Improving the Thermal Performance of Traditional Windows: Metal-Framed Windows

Author(s): Paul Baker

This report summarises the results of research to investigate the thermal performance of metal windows and methods of reducing heat loss. The project was carried out by the Centre for Research on Indoor Climate & Health, Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) on behalf of Historic England (previously English Heritage). The testing programme aimed to quantify the thermal performance of the single-glazed metalframed windows tested, and the benefits of simple improvements including curtains, blinds, draught-stripping, and secondary glazing options.
