Catridge Farm, Gastard, Lacock, Wiltshire: Report on Geophysical Survey October 2014

Geophysical survey was undertaken over the earthwork remains of a shrunken medieval settlement at Catridge Farm, Lacock, Wiltshire as part of the National Archaeological Identification Survey (NAIS) Lowland Pilot: West Wiltshire project, to enhance evidence from previous aerial photography, lidar, analytical earthwork survey and limited excavation. Results from a vehicle towed caesium magnetometer survey (2.2ha) were strongly affected by the presence of buried services associated with the modern farm, but within the less disturbed areas former roadways, enclosure ditches and other linear boundaries were detected. Ground Penetrating Radar survey (2.2ha) proved more successful resolving a possible walled enclosure, partially surviving as an earthwork, and evidence for further stone building remains.
